Boxing weight class calculator

Enter the weight you carry between camps. You get the division you would box at with no cut, and the one your weight fits once a normal camp and cut are allowed for.

This is a planning estimate built on the 12 to 15 percent band from the 2025 ISSN position stand. The limits are the WBC's, and the other major bodies use effectively identical figures. It knows nothing about your body fat or how you respond to a cut, and amateur boxing uses different, metric classes.

How it picks the division

Between camps, the 2025 ISSN position stand on combat sports recommends carrying 12 to 15 percent above the division limit. The calculator finds the lightest division that keeps your weight within 15 percent of its limit. Anything lighter would ask the camp to remove more than that band allows, and a faster descent takes more of it from muscle.

Why the answer can jump

The steps between divisions are uneven. At the bottom of the table they are around 3 percent. Between light heavyweight and cruiserweight the step is over 14. A few pounds between camps can move the answer by a division at the light end and by nothing at the heavy end.

The full table, with the weight to carry for every division, is on the boxing weight classes page.

What it does not know

Your body fat, which decides how much of any descent can come from fat at all. Your history with cuts. And the rules of your fight: amateur boxing runs on metric classes under World Boxing, and a catchweight in a bout agreement overrides the table.

Common questions

What weight class am I in boxing?

The one whose limit is at or above your weight at the weigh-in. For planning a career, the better question is which division fits your weight between camps: the lightest one whose limit sits no more than 15 percent below it.

How much above the limit should a boxer walk around?

The 2025 ISSN position stand puts it at 12 to 15 percent above the division limit between camps. For a 147-pound welterweight that is roughly 165 to 169 pounds.

Does this calculator work for amateur boxing?

No. Amateur boxing uses metric classes under World Boxing, with limits unlike the professional divisions. The divisions here are the professional limits published by the WBC, and the other major bodies use effectively identical figures.
